Think today’s outboard engines are limited to performance-oriented center consoles and sport cats? Think again—Active Thunder’s twin Mercury Marine Verado 300 outboard-powered 33 Evolution V-bottom could shift your paradigm. Without propeller testing or dial-in time, the 7,500-pound closed-deck stepped-hull performer topped 75 mph in its second test session, and cruised comfortably at 55 mph, according to the Pompano Beach, Fla., boat builder’s Patrick Haughey. “All in all, I think we hit the nail squarely on the head staying in the performance arena but caving to the outboard trend and the more ‘utilitarian’ use boaters are turning to,” he said.
