Unfortunately, Active Thunder Boat’s Patrick Haughey recently revealed to Speed on the Water that, due to a 2015 injury, he will not be exhibiting at the 2016 Miami Boat Show. Read more from the interview, below.
Although Active Thunder’s Patrick Haughey had hoped to be “good to go” in time for the start of the Miami International Boat Show, the leg he broke in late 2015 hasn’t healed as quickly as anticipated and he’s had to withdraw from the event. Haughey had planned to display his 29 Savage sportboat, which is powered by twin 300-hp Mercury Marine Verado outboard engines, during the show.
“I really wanted it to happen but I just don’t think I’m capable of standing at the docks for four long days,” said Haughey. “So I had to eat the cost of exhibiting and withdraw from the show. We won’t have a boat there.
“My backup plan, meaning Casey, my son, also can’t be there as he’s also still recovering from a broken leg of his own,” he added, then chuckled. “It’s been a rough couple of months.”
Despite the disappointment of not exhibiting in Miami, Haughey said he’s in good spirits and would welcome visits from show attendees in need of a “fun field trip” to the Active Thunder facility in Pompano Beach, Fla., while the show is running. Visitors to the plant will have the opportunity to see a 37-footer being rigged with twin Mercury Racing 540 engines, a 33 Evolution being fitted with a pair of 350-hp Verado outboards, the new 23-foot Banshee and the tooling for Active Thunder’s upcoming 29 Defiant, the open-bow version of the 29 Savage, which will be powered by a Mercury Racing 565 engine.
“We may even have wheelchair races for people who stop by,” he quipped.
